Error Running Fedora 20 (32 bits) on Oracle Virtualbox

April 9, 2014

I installed Fedora 20 (32b) on Oracle Virtualbox 4.3.10r93012 hosted on Windows 7 pro 64b SP1 in a HP EliteBook 8770w. After the installation I restarted the virtual machine and got the following error:

Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem occurred and the system can’t recover. Please contact the system administrator.

To solve the problem I:

  1. pressed “Crtl-Alt-F2” while on the error screen to get to console mode,
  2. logged as root on the console,
  3. executed ‘yum update’ and update Fedora.

After the update I was able to log into Fedora 20.
