Sybase IQ 16 as OBIEE 11g Data Source Using the Bundled Data Direct ODBC Driver

November 8, 2013

Oracle has bundled Data Direct drivers on OBIEE 11g. The DataDirect 7.0 Sybase IQ Wire Protocol has been included in version 11.1.1.7. I’d tested this driver to connect to SAP Sybase IQ 15.2 ESD#3 and SAP Sybase IQ 16.0 SP1; the configuration is the same to connect to both version of SAP Sybase IQ.

Environment

  • OBIEE Plus 11.1.1.7 running on Solaris 10, Sun Sparc 64 architecture.
  • OBIEE Database repository on MS SQL 2005 running on Windows 2003
  • Sybase IQ 15.2 ESD#3 running on Solaris 10, Sun Sparc 64 architecture.
  • Sybase IQ 16 PS1 running on Solaris 10, Sun Sparc 64 architecture.

Configuration Process

  1. Verify the driver is installed in $ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/7.0.1; the drives name is “ARsyiq26.so”.
  2. Change Directory to $ORACLE_INSTANCE/bifoundation/OracleBIApplication/coreapplication/setup.
  3. Add the library path to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable on the user.sh file.
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/oracle/Obiee11/Oracle_BI1/common/ODBC/Merant/7.0.1/lib
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
  4. In the same directory, edit the odbc.ini file and make the following changes:
    1. Change the installation directory to the new version of the ODBC

      InstallDir = /oracle/Obiee11/Oracle_BI1/common/ODBC/Merant/7.0.1

    2. Replace the trace application for the new one (optional)

      TraceDll = /oracle/Obiee11/Oracle_BI1/common/ODBC/Merant/7.0.1/lib/ARtrc26.so

    3. Identify the data source (optional)

      [ODBC Data Sources]
      AnalyticsWeb = Oracle BI Server
      Cluster = Oracle BI Server
      SSL_Sample = Oracle BI Server
      instance1_MSSS = DataDirect 5.3 SQL Server Wire Protocol
      <Other data sources>
      MytestIq16 = Sybase IQ 16

    4. Add the DSN entries for the SAP Sybase IQ servers

      [MytestIq16]
      Driver=/oracle/Obiee11/Oracle_BI1/common/ODBC/Merant/7.0.1/lib/ARsyiq26.so
      Description=DataDirect 7.0 Sybase IQ Wire Protocol
      AlternateServers=
      ApplicationName=
      ApplicationUsingThreads=1
      ArraySize=50
      Charset=
      ConnectionReset=0
      ConnectionRetryCount=0
      ConnectionRetryDelay=3
      CursorCacheSize=1
      Database=MyDb16
      DefaultLongDataBuffLen=1024
      EncryptionMethod=0
      FailoverGranularity=0
      FailoverMode=0
      FailoverPreconnect=0
      InitializationString=
      Language=
      LoadBalancing=0
      LoadBalanceTimeout=0
      LoginTimeout=15
      LogonID=
      MaxPoolSize=100
      MinPoolSize=0
      NetworkAddress=MyIQServer,4100
      PacketSize=0
      Password=
      Pooling=0
      QueryTimeout=0
      RaiseErrorPositionBehavior=0
      ReportCodePageConversionErrors=0
      SelectMethod=0
      TruncateTimeTypeFractions=0
      WorkStationID=

  5. Test connectivity using nqcmd (test connectivity with nqcmd).
  6. Copy $ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/7.0.1/DDAR.LIC to $ORACLE_HOME/bifoundation/odbc/lib; This is the DataDirect licence for the new drivers.
  7. Restart the BI services and components

Done!
