OBIEE 11g with Sybase ASE Data Source

February 6, 2013

Introduction

In this post I explain how to connect to Sybase ASE data sources from OBIEE 11g using the bundled DataDirect Sybase Wired Protocol ODBC driver.

Environment

  • OBIEE Plus 11.1.1.6 running on Solaris 10, Sun Sparc 64 architecture and install under the /oracle/Obiee11 directory.
  • OBIEE Database repository on MS SQL 2008 running on Windows 2008 (64b).
  • Sybase ASE 12.5.3 ESD#3 running on Solaris 10, Sun Sparc 64 architecture.
  • DataDirect 5.3 Sybase Wired Protocol ODBC driver that is bundled with Oracle Business Intelligence.

Configuration Process

  1. Add the path to the ODBC driver’s library directory to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable in the /oracle/Obiee11/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIApplication/coreapplication/setup/user.sh file.

    ################################
    # DataDirect Wired Protocol ODBC drivers
    #################################
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/oracle/Obiee11/Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/odbc/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

  1. Add the ODBC data source entry in the /oracle/Obiee11/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIApplication/coreapplication/setup/odbc.ini file.
