Create a link server to Sybase IQ 15.2

March 12, 2012

Introduction

When working in heterogeneous environments, some times is necessary to link different database servers running on different platforms. This post describes how to set a link server on MS SQL 2005 to Sybase IQ 12.5 running on Solaris 10.

Environment

• SQL Server 9.00.3054.00 – SP2 (Standard Edition) running on Windows 2003 server SP2 using mixed authentication mode.
• Sybase IQ 15.2 ESD#3 running on Solaris 10 over Sun Sparc x64 architecture.

Steps

  1. Download and install Sybase IQ ODBC driver on the MS Windows Server. IQ ODBC driver is part of the Sybase IQ Network Client.
  2.  On the Windows server, configure a new ODBC data source to the Sybase IQ database using Sybase IQ DBODBC11.DLL, for my test I named it myIqDs.
  3. On MS SQL, create the link server using the following parameters:
Provider = SQL Anywhere OLE DB Provider 11.
    Product name: Sybase IQ 15.2
Data source: leave this field blank.
    Provider: dsn=myIqDs;uidMyIQuserid;pwd=MyIQpassword
  4. Test if the linked server is successful responding

select * from openquery(MyLinkServer, ‘select * from dba.MyTable’)

Done!
